Upgrading ContactWise


How to do a simple ContactWise upgrade from version 7.0 or later to version 7.3

     *** Make sure CW and integration clients (Outlook or GroupWise) are shut down completely before running CW installation files to ensure proper client collaboration. This includes GroupWise Notify.

     *** Backup your database prior to running the upgrade! For the sake of data integrity and random mishaps such as power outages, backing up your database will provide a safety net. It might also save you thousands of dollars.

Installing the Client:

1: Download the latest version of Contactwise from http://downloads.grouplink.net.   A way to ensure efficiency is to put the installation msi is to put it on your networks shared drive. If you don't have one of those, a flash drive works best. Downloading the msi to each machine in the network is cumbersome at best.

     *** make sure to do a full install on any machines requiring the Database Administrator Utility (DBadmin), a typical install won't deploy it.

2: Deploy the latest cwXX.msi to all client machines

Upgrading the dataset: 

1: Open the DBadmin from start menu > all programs > GroupLink > ContactWise > Database Administrator

2: The DBadmin will prompt asking if you want to upgrade the schema to the latest design.

     ***  after doing this, versions prior to 7.3 won't be able to connect to the database, thus the need for deploying the cwXX.msi to all client machines

     ***  backup prior to upgrade in case of power failure or some other random occurance which will cause data corruption

3:  If necessary, deploy the most recent license file using the .exe file named after your company, sent by our license technician

     ***  if CW throws a 'upgrade protection expired' error when you open it, it's due to your license file being out of date.

     ***  if you don't have an up to date license file and have purchased ugprade protection expiring after April 2007, contact Grouplink to get an updated license.
